If you have a 1 bar pattern you want extended to 4, you must set
the pattern length to 1 bar *before* executing the extend
command. What happened to you was you extended a 4 bar
pattern out to 4 bars . . . i.e. nothing changed.
Now lets say you do this for track 1 (Kick). Your pattern is now 4
bars of Kick. If you program 1 bar of Snare on track 2 and want to
extend it to 4 bars, you have to reset the pattern length to 1 bar,
then execute the extend command on Track 2. This will now give
you a 2-track, 4-bar pattern of Kick and Snare.
The reason you have to reset the pattern length back to 1 is
because if you don't, the xx-7 thinks your pattern is already 4 bars
(1 full, 3 empty), so there's nothing to extend.
At least, all of this is what I've found works for me. Anyone else
have a better way?
