Extend sequence data question

Extend sequence data question

2002-12-16 by Greg <golerage@yahoo.com>

hello all,
I was wondering if anyone has had problems using the Extend Sequence
Data option under the Pattern Edit menu.

When I tried it, the operation looked as if it took. But on playback
the wasn't any data moved. Do I need to have information in the bars
that I am trying to extend to. What I did was create my basic beat in
one bar. Selected the E.S.D. option in Pattern edit. Told it to
extend to 4 bars, selected my tracks hit enter and nothing. In the
manual it shows that is data on the bars before the command is
executed, so I was wondering if it really necessary to have data
stored ahead of time.

Thanks,
Greg

Did you change your pattern length to the new length? Otherwise it
will still just be playing the 1 bar loop section you started with.

I did change the length of the pattern before trying
to have the loop extend over the remaining bars.
Pretty much the same way the manual shows it. Just
that the bars I was trying to extend into were empty
data wise.

Set the Pattern length to 1 bar first, then do the ESD to 4. After that,
it should automatically change the length to 4 measures. When you do your
ESD, try saving the pattern then see if it works.

If you have a 1 bar pattern you want extended to 4, you must set
the pattern length to 1 bar *before* executing the extend
command. What happened to you was you extended a 4 bar
pattern out to 4 bars . . . i.e. nothing changed.

Now lets say you do this for track 1 (Kick). Your pattern is now 4
bars of Kick. If you program 1 bar of Snare on track 2 and want to
extend it to 4 bars, you have to reset the pattern length to 1 bar,
then execute the extend command on Track 2. This will now give
you a 2-track, 4-bar pattern of Kick and Snare.

The reason you have to reset the pattern length back to 1 is
because if you don't, the xx-7 thinks your pattern is already 4 bars
(1 full, 3 empty), so there's nothing to extend.

At least, all of this is what I've found works for me. Anyone else
have a better way?

Clay
