i think she might hate me!

i think she might hate me!

Ok. I love my MP7 but I think she might hate me.

She has locked up on me a few times, no big deal.

I have also had her not paste when I say paste.

Last night Every time I would try to play a song she would leave out or
drastically alter different patterns by leaving out tracks or playing an
entire pattern really quiet.

I would do the stop 3X and that would fix the track being left out of one
pattern but she was still playing another pattern in a strange quiet way in
song mode but it was fine in pattern mode. then when I switched from song to
pattern mode she stayed in song mode. It took like two times to make the
switch. I tried rebooting a couple times and it did not help. She seemed to
be acting funny in general. This is the most trouble she has given me since
we got together 2 months ago. She seems to have gotten progressively worse
over the last few days. Last night I had to give up. I cant seem to find any
thing about Diagnostic mode in the manual. HELP! :)

A couple of questions..

2002-12-13 by Kevin Johnson

I'm planning on buying one of the command stations here in the next
couple o days but I have a few questions first:

1. Can it import MIDI files?

2. I'm planning to use it as my main sequencer (I too am ditching
software)
Will it work for this? Do any of you have any experience using it so?

3. Is the MP7 just for hip/hop /rnb style or does it have some good pads
and lead sounds?

4. I worried the command station (XL7) is a "one trick pony" (just for
dance type music). I do synth type psychedelic rock..kinda like an
updated pink floyd with autechre style rhythms and melodies. Will this
thing do that or is it a dance machine only?

Thanx in advance..

Yep.

The editing features on the unit itself are rather primitive,
certainly compared to sequencing software. It depends what you need.

If you're concerned about the base sound sets, you can always add
other sound ROM's.

I would expect that you'll find effects processing at least as
important as the sound sources. The XL-7 is a little weak in terms of
effects.

Yes it works really well depending on what you need. I just
came from Logic and don't miss it at all now that I use the mp-7.

I use it to create house. but you can take the sounds and edit
them. theres some good pads and leads but of course you can add
ROMS.

Although its aimed at dance it can really be used for any style.
If you can play it the mp-7 will record it. And with the grid and
step modes it should be able to do the IDM stuff well.

Just to amplify on Nick's comment about the XX-7's lack of effects...

There are two possible work arounds. The first is to use the extra four
XX-7 outs to create additional effects sends and returns (these jacks act
like inserts). Multi-effects boxes are pretty cheap now. This can help
tremendously.

The second is to think in terms of programming your effects into your
patches using the various synth features. Before multi-effects were cheap
and built into every synth this was standard practice and it is possible to
simulate delay, reverb, echo, and other common effects. The XX-7's patch
cord modulation scheme also leads you toward creating some pretty wild
presets with different modulation effects. There's a lot under the hood
that can sometimes fill the role normally left to an effects box. Not as
immediate or accessible as your typical effects box but it can be a decent
way of stretching the limited two effects units in the XX-7.

ok thanks for the input.. one more question: at what resolution is
the sequencer ie can i put in 64th notes or dotted 64ths?

384 ppqn.

you can't input 64th notes. it only goes up to 32. the ppqn is 384 ticks per beat.
like you, i bought this unit to get away from software and i'm very happy with it.

The grid editor will do 32nds, as will the step editor. (Actually, the
step editor will do 32-triplets, which is finer.) I presume the
realtime recording is higher resolution; the editor itself is 384ppqn.

I don't know who this is a follow-up to, since...

...I didn't write this.

Personally I find the sequencer (the editor itself, as opposed to the
grid system) rather primitive and limited, but it's not too bad for
something with a 20x2 screen, and sometimes a simple, physical
interface is more productive than the multimedia virtual reality that
passes for a lot of computer sequencer interfaces these days.

You can input 64ths, you just need to do it in Note List Mode. Hell, you
can do 128ths that way too,
