All I can recommend is to read the manual. Don't know how the XL-7 is if it's the first synth you've ever used... might be a little bit tricky. Read the manual, and if there's something you don't understand, look it up at the internet. If you have used synthesizers before... Well, then read and try. Will only take a few weeks until you understand each feature of the synth. //Nifflas --- In xl7@y..., jm213213@a... wrote: > I just purchased the xl-7. Any advice on just starting out. Is there any

Try here as well: rEalm has created an FAQ for this reason. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/xl7/files --- In xl7@y..., "nifflas" <nifflas@m...> wrote: > All I can recommend is to read the manual. Second, scan the Yahoo message archives. There's a lot of postings, many with little tips and what-not. Depending on your overall experience with similar gear you might consider learning the XX7 in this order: 1. Selecting sounds (especially learn the catalog browsing feature) and how to do basic editing using the front panel QuickEdit controls. 2. Playing and triggering patterns from the XX7 control surface. Track muting, basic control features. 3. Basic pattern sequencing with particular attention paid to learning the grid recording feature. As needed Arpeggiators, Beats, and control panel triggering of either; song-mode; "deep" editing of sounds; further study on sequence editing, etc The main thing is to get oriented to the XX7 before you try to learn its more advanced or complicated features. And of course post questions as they occur to you here. But it all starts with the manual! Good luck and welcome! drk www.delora.com/music www.mp3.com/zdrk drk.iuma.com

hi, i kind of have a newcomer question as well. i was just wondering if there was somewhere i might be able to find a tips and tricks FAQ for sound editing. i found one in this group before about creating a slicer or something using a pulse wave routed to the ampvol, but now i can't seem to find it. also i was wondering about maybe like what types of filters go good with what etc. thanks in advance, -brian

I'll be perfectly honest and say that you should always use your ears. If it sounds good, use it, if it doesn't, don't. The filters that are geared towards a certain sound (and not saying you shouldn't sue those for other things too) are typically called things like Aceofbase, or Rolandbass, etc. rEalm also i was wondering about maybe like what types of filters go good with what etc. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

You may wan't to check out IBGEEK it is a user group listed under the links section of this group. It deals with the creating of sounds with emu gear.
