Welcome aboard, glad to have you here!
Hmm.... advice? Here's a few that come to mind:

- Go to the emu website and download the latest OS (ver 1.31) and the
latest version of E-Loader (ver1.1). Use these instead of the ones that
come with your unit, especially important to do the new OS, it adds a TON
of newer features and bug fixes.
- While you're there get the latest version of the manual too (rev D).
Download it, print it out, and start reading it asap. The sooner you get
familiar with what this box is capable of, the sooner you'll be making
your own beats. Anyone who owns music gear owes it to themselves to read
the manuals at least a couple of times through, that's the best way to
learn your gear. (and you'll save the wear and tear on my RTFM typing
fingers too!) j/k BTW.
- Your best bet is to just try and get a handle on how the box is
organized. Once you get a feel for the layout of the software, the rest
of it actually really intuitive.
- Go to the Files section of this yahoogroup, and print out the FAQ. It's
newer than the one on Emu's site, and may help you with any initial
questions.
- Also, there's a brand new OS on the way next year, so stay tuned here
for more info on lots of new features!
- Of course, you're always free to ask if you run into a problem, we all
love to help!

As a new user I would love any advice you all have to offer on software or
anything. Like what ever you do don't do this...... or stuff like that.

I plan on using Digital performer 3 since I already have it (have no clue
how to use it). Would any one recommend a sound editor like sound logic
diver?? How useful are these types of programs? ;)

hi,

welcome to the group...

SoundDiver may not receive any more PC support in the future. Individual product makers like Access will continue so support sounddiver with additional modules

Unisyn for XP and OsX from MOTU is scheduled for 2003 that maybe more appealing if your a DP user

also theres Soundquest's Midi quest 8.0 www.squest.com

  Hello,

My MP7 should arrive in the mail on Nov 6th in plenty of time to prepare
for the contest Wooooooo hoooo! My decision to purchase it was largely due
to your awesome user group! You guyz rock! It sounds like this box can get
fairly complex and you all seem to do a good job of helping each other out.
I have already learned a lot from the group and i don't even have my machime
  yet!

I am also a record promoter, Chief promoter for Space 380 www.space380.com
I held an electronic artist ( Trancenden "Peace Love Beats" Aniligital
Music) in the top 10 CMJ RPM charts for 3 weeks last winter! Universal
wanted to buy 50,000 CD's from him. For any one that is not familiar with
CMJ it stands for College Media Journal which = the college charts! I have
no intention of soliciting any further to this group, just lettin ya know
  who I am. Thanks!

Welcome!

I wouldn't jump on the software side of things too much until you get your
feet pretty soaked on the MP7. a lot to learn just with that and you'll
also discover its strengths and weakness before you bring the other guns to
bare like DP.

BTW I am a long time DP user so if you have any question feel free to ask
here or directly. also you might want to consider joining the DP user
forums here on yahoo. They are very active with a lot of pros discussing
DP.

drk,

Speaking of new(ish) users, have you re-aquired a command station?

One of the main reasons I bought an XL-7 was that editing from the
front panel is relatively painless (and it's integrated with the
sequencing interface). I'm never going to buy another machine which
requires third-party editing support. (Both the Oasys and the Nord
Modular - the other sound boxes I'm using at the moment - have
dedicated editors.)

Yes one followed me home like a lost puppy almost a year to the day after I
bought my first one. Must be something about that Emu Synth architecture
that I can't get enough of :-)

And oh, its another XL7. Not that I have anything against purple, just what
followed me home.

It is VERY great and huge sounding. With 4 oscs and 4 track step sequencer and a lot of distortion and feedback loops built in. I am a big fan already. Go get one!
