E-loader on Mac

E-loader on Mac

2002-10-23 by gongvibe

This is for anyone who may ever have difficulty getting E-loader to
function on their Mac, based on my own recent experiences:

- upgrade OS to 9.1 or 9.2 - I had no luck with 9.0.2
- install or reinstall apps in this order: OMS and then Eloader
- do not run any other apps than OMS and E-loader when using E-loader
- if problems persist create dedicated extension sets (for ex. FREEMIDI
does not like OMS, having both extensions active seems to cause eloader
to freeze)
- if it seems like E-loader is not functioning correctly - click around
the various windows and positions - it will probably come to life
- if things weem hopeless, uninstall and reintsall OMS and E-loader
again, with no other apps running
_ always launch OMS and then E-loader - and have no other apps running

Eloader is great. I went for months without having it - but now that I
do I feel like I can finally begin to reeally use the XL7 to its
fullest potential.

Hope this helps

Depending on what interface you have as well, It might be worth mentioning
that I had loads of problems with my mt4 and OMS- until I removed the "USB
OMSmididriver" from the Extensions folder and replaced it with the "USB
Unitor Family" one- Now I have no problems at all (OMS and mt4 in perfect
harmony!) :)

But also, I must point out, that this setup only applies to me using Logic
Audio and a Nord Modular editor. I still haven't purchased an xl-7- 'cos I'm
broke again :( Therefore I haven't tried it with e-loader and cannot give
you all a definate answer- but give it a go anyway:)

**that is interesting- I was told to leave the USB OMSMidi Driver in
the Extenstions folder regardless. Think I will remove it and see if
things get even a bit more stable. BTW there are no USB drivers yet for
the xx7, and (again) am am told not to have a USB cable connecting the
xx7 and the mac. Just Midi in/out.

It is pretty well documented that in OMS v 2.3.8 (the final version
released) Opcode added a bunch of code for their own USB MIDI Interfaces,
which in turn caused issues with competitors¹ USB interfaces. I have been
told many times to only use OMS 2.3.7 with a non-Opcode USB MIDI interface.
I believe Midiman/M-Audio¹s install instructions say to use 2.3.7 as well
because of issues with 2.3.8. If removing that one extension bypasses the
issues, then great.

I often had trouble with my USB interface, so I switched to a Studio4. No
problems it¹s tight, and highly configurable! Who needs the latest and
greatest anyway... and free was a good price.

**yes this is common - it is what my experiences were too until it
finally worked. Again anecdotally(sp) I would say do not expect to have
any success until you get up to mac OS 9.1 or 9.2 I know that 9.2
works, and the recommendation from (from another) to go to OMS 2.3.7
sounds worth pursuing also. Good luck!
