I haven't bothered with this, but it was something I had gotten around to
thinking about. Again, I have not actually tried out this idea, just kind
of assumed that it would work (which I'm sure I'll eventually get around to
trying it out).

HOW TO MAKE A DRUM KIT

So you want to make a drum kit.
You'll probably notice right away that you can select up to 4 waveforms per
patch (preset). Thus, if you used drum waveforms as the 4 waveforms, you
essientially could have a VERY small kit started. Essientially a kit
containing 4 different drum waveforms. You could assign note ranges as you
desired to pick out which keys triggered what drum sounds.

Having a drum kit with only 4 waveforms most probably isn't going to be
found that desriable at most times though......so here's the deal, simply
create more patches (presets). With these new patches (presets) you form
however, make sure you assign your selected waveforms to note ranges
different than those of the previous drum based patch (preset) you created.

You can probably tell where I'm going with this idea at this
point.......time to chain up presets. Making one giant (patch) preset
essientially out of a chain of smaller presets (patches) you created. The
result, not only a drum kit, but an essientially fairly modifiable one in
regard to how most drum kits tend to be setup on synths.

The beauty behind this here is so long as you remain fairly consistent with
what type of drum sounds you assign to specific note ranges, you can develop
a varity of bass kick selections, snare selections, etc. that you can
switch in and out at your pleasure for constructing and/or modifiying new
drum kits.

Again, I haven't bothered with making my idea into a reality, as really, I
just haven't seen much use for drum kits for how I've been working with the
XL-7 thus far. If anyone implements this idea, or already has, I'd be
interested in knowing how effectively it works.....unless of course, I get
around to just doing it myself before I hear from any of you.

Respects,

           Alien
