song mode...

song mode...

2002-06-11 by David Jones

Ok. So I've mastered creating tracks, and the editing process. I still have to learn how to make my own arpegios, but that will come soon enough.
Right now I am diving into SONG mode. I've only done a little bit, but from what I read in the manual (tfm), It appears that I can't turn on and off tracks in the middle of a pattern in my song... Or am I completely wrong? ?

Well, yes and no. True, in the middle of a pattern you can't change the
mute status of your tracks, but there's a sorta workaround. In song mode,
you can specify that any step can be any length (as in number of
measures). So even if you have an 8 measure pattern, you can tell that
step in the song to only be 4 or 2 measures long if you want. So you can
break your 8 measure pattern up into eight 1 measure Steps if you wanted,
and apply different Track mutes that way. The downside? If you tell a
Step to be shorter than the length of the pattern (as in the above example
with eight 1 measure steps), the pattern will always restart at each step.
So in effect, you'd get the first measure repeating 8 times. No
workaround for that except to use an external sequencer...

That's what's so useful about that posted suggestion that for each step in
song mode, one should be able to to specify the starting point of the
played pattern, in addition to its length.
