PROTEUS 2500 & XX-7 DIFFERENCE???

PROTEUS 2500 & XX-7 DIFFERENCE???

2002-04-29 by drj0

Does anyone know the ACTUAL differences between the XX-7's and the
p2k5?

Are the command stations 24 bit? Are the sequencers the same?? Do
the command stations have a note/event list-edit mode?

I have been going all over the place to sonic state, the gas station
(synth forum), and yahoo groups to find out the answers to my
questions, but i'm still having problems. maybe today i will call
EMU...

Thanks

As far as I know they're quite identical except the

* Design
* Factory sounds. They have different waveforms (roms) and presets.
The XL-7 has the Extreme Lead rom, the MP-7 has the Mo'Phatt rom, the
Proteus 2500 has it's own "composer" rom or whatever it's called =)

drj0,

Nifflas is correct. They all utilize the same OS format and have the
same features. The only visible difference is that the pads are
missing on the 2500. If you were to take the MP-7 ROM and put it in
the 2500, you would have a MP-7 without the pads in the 2500 shell
and the same goes for if the 2500 ROM was put in to one of the **-
7's, you would then have a 2500 with pads in a CS shell.

Ok cool. Do you know if the retail prices of both units are the
same? I see that they're sold everywhere for $999 - however, it
just seems strange to me that the xx-7's would have a little bit
more on them and sell for the same price.

The bigest thing that confused me is the 2500's boasting
about "faster" and "24bit" technology. Now I realize they are the
same thing pretty much.

The pictures of the command stations make it look smaller htan it
must be !!!

Same price of $999 US for all units.

Correct. The **-7's had the same marketing concept as well.

6 rack spaces for the **-7's vs. 4 for the 2500.

Okay, for the next logical question: How do the OSes of the keyboards, the
PK6 and company, differ? Are they more like the single-space units? (And
it looks like the xx6s have the same odd design for their mod wheels that
had EMAX reviewers complaining so much about, lo those many years ago.)

John,

Looking at the specs, it seems that the keyboard version is more
along the lines of the single space modules. They(keyboards)do have
a cool feature called the JAM mode which is not in the P*K format.

I played around with the PK-6 in St. Louis and it was pretty fun. I
haven't seen the XK-6 yet but I will be in Dallas this week and have
plotted out where the Guitar Center's are in that area.

The keyboard OS's are about halfway between the XL-7 and the Proteus 2000
OS's. They support the new sound ROM features (i.e. 16 knobs, modulatable
sustain levels, etc) but do not have the full blown pattern based sequencer.
They do however, have a cool quick pattern select feature that is exclusive to
the keyboards.

And why don't WE have that, hmmm? :) I bet we need it more than those
stupid ivory ticklers do! j/k!
