module upgrade cd

2002-04-01 by payntaraspen

do xx-7 users need to install the module update cd that comes with
expansion roms? It includes the superbeats function, but also has
arpeggiator functions. Will this cause a conflict with the arps
that come with the xx-7's? i would like to access the superbeat
function, but dont want to screw up my arps !!

Any info is much appreciated (emu staff input welcome)

There is no beats function for the XX-7s. The OS you refer to is for older p2ks.

Do not try to install the 2.xx os on the CD. That's there for Module
users. You already have the Arp features and the Beats feature will be
added in the next XL/MP-7 OS release. Modules and xx-7s run off
different Operating Systems.

No kidding!??! Wow, you guys are awesome! I love this XL-7 more and more every day, and the new features are very welcome. I was kinda sad the Beats feature wasn\u2019t in the XX-7\u2019s.

So is this in the OS expected any day now, or planned for the next release?

Since they dropped the ball already, I'll tell you guys, the beats feature is awesome! It's integreated very nicely with the Triggers, so you can do some pretty cool things with them. More to come once the OS is released, I'm sure an FAQ update too....

There are a lot of bts presets in the Xlead, the Phatt AND the World
modules (none in the ZR), so I'm looking forward to finally trying them
out. It'll be like getting a new machine, if the hints are correct.

First bit of documentation I wanna see is how to create bts presets. I
have this fantasy of mixing World percussion, cellos and presets that
combine Phatt vox vowels with World bowed sounds ... if that's possible ...

So, what's it like to play with this feature? Also, is it possible to have
this set up and going, while playing another preset from a MIDI controller?

>>> Well, in any Emu module BTS are really just multi-channel Audition
Riffs, so you can't change the bts pattern per se, you're stuck with the
ones that'll come with it, same as the audition riffs. BUT, you can
assign a bts riff to ANY Preset, so that will help. <<<

>>> Yeah I think you'll be able to do that, not sure till the OS comes out
though. I think the feature wlll be cool, once people get used to it, and
how it's implemented in the XX-7's. <<<

Well, that sucks. Why bother, then?

Perhaps if they ever get a patch editor working with e-Loader, riff
editing/loading could be part of it?

Yes, real pity - the machine would have become a monster. It's all in the card's flash ROM I suppose.
Probably rather hard to control though :> How would you know what was on and off in each track? :>
I was thinking of a adding a second sequencer to my rig. Something that would allow give me more track buttons, and also allow me to get away from the 'groove' thing, where everything is all nicely synched up and repeats together every 4 bars. It would also be very nice to be able to record and loop live midi data.
On the audio side, I do this with a repeater and echoplex - I can setup 4 bar grooves in the repeater, and extended, or even odd time repeats in the echoplex - for example, having a rhythmic comp repeat every 9 bars over a 4 bar bassline.
Can anyone recomend a sequencer that would complement the XL-7?
