Transpose LED broken

Transpose LED broken

2002-03-04 by nate33a

Hi
Playing on my mp7 I carelessy hit a transpose LED to the right of
the two octave transpose buttons and it fell through (i think its
just a plastic cover cause the light is still going inside) so theres
just a hole there. i can hear the detatched part rattling inside. Is it
safe/easy to open and repair? Im not sure if anythings broken, it
seems like it just became detatched. i bought my mp7 overseas
so im definately trying to just open it an reattatch the part myself.

Thanks

The box is easy to open -- remove the power chord, flip it over and take
out the eight screws that connect the (in the mp7's case) purple bit from
the base. That's how you add music cards.

Opening the case is relatively straightforward, but in order to replace
the LED light pipe requires removing the knob board, which is a bit of
work. You have to remove all the knobs, some nuts, board screws and some
electrical connectors to do the job. If you replace the connectors
incorrectly you could damage the machine.

I understand why you would want to try to fix this yourself, but if you
are not savvy taking apart electronics gear you could mess things up.
The light pipe being loose is not any kind of hazard since it is plastic
and therefore can't short anything out. Even though you bought the unit
overseas any authorized Service Center can take care of the repair for
you. Just a few words of caution before you get possibly get in over
your head with what is not an absolutely trivial task.
