Swing those drums!!!

Swing those drums!!!

2008-09-08 by dwn4tupac

I've been working on some tracks on the xl-7 and am finding that my
drums are rather static and stale. What "swing" do you use to make
your drums catchy and punchy? I need more FUNK!

Something I've always done to "keep it real" is to use the quantize only on certain parts.
For example I will play the hi hats, cymbals, and/or maybe like some sort of snare ghost
strokes or accents "live" (with the quantize set to off). That way the main parts are still
dead on but the feel of a real drummer still exists. I've done it in numerous different
combinations. So the swing setting is cool to keep the feel loose but doing it live let's you
actually create it naturally. Something like that may help.
