Anybody else use strips of paper between the track enable button rows?

Anybody else use strips of paper between the track enable button rows?

2008-08-18 by just john

A tough thing for me had been remembering which track had which patch
(and which part.)

Finally, I cut a bunch of half-inch strips of paper for placement
between the rows of track enable buttons. Then, for each pattern, I
wrote the part name for the button above or below. IE: each strip
winds up with two rows of part names, one for the buttons above and
one for the buttons below.

This helps a LOT.

So far, this is a manual process. Now that I have a printer again,
I'm thinking of automating it a bit better, and maybe branching out to
something to hang on the knob array, with useful information for them.
(Part names, and for individual patches, starting positions.)

But perhaps you guys are miles ahead of me, so I figured I'd ask if
anybody else has done this.

the manual suggests a similar scheme i was never able to follow.
was thinking about buying those little colored dot stickers that
teachers use and put them on buttons for groups.

I actually made some templates that fit around the buttons..and had
my traks labeled for each song.

(Let's see if this "rich text editor" will work. The following should be
in Courier font, so if it's garbled, copy and paste it to a window with
monospaced font.)

|.pian.|.bass.|......|.dr1..|.sax..|......|
-------------------------------------------
|.dr2..|.flut.|.slap.|......|......|.hornz|

Like the above, only with 8 slots instead of six, and without the
periods (used here for spacing.) Now imagine that on a strip of paper,
1/2 inch by 8 1/2 inches. Use the extra space that extends beyond the
black buttons to label which pattern the paper strip goes with.

Are the templates computer files? If so, that's the sort of thing I'd
like to steal^h^h^h^h^h have a look at.

Actually, both of my command stations have lost around 40% of their track buttons, plus the erase, record, pattern, and play buttons.

The buttons themselves, or the buttons' functionality?

(My track 4 button is losing its responsiveness.)

i dont have them anymore...but it was prob. similiar to the strips of paper.
It was light cardstock and i cut out strips where the 2 rows of buttons were....then labelebeled above/below trak buttons.
