Ok, first let me say....I'M A DUMB@SS!! I just got a PK-6 and it WAS
working fine. But I just can't leave well enough alone. I had an
Audity 2000 ROM lying about and, while I thought it probably would'nt
translate correctly, I thought at the very least I could get some
interesting noise out of it and at the very worst it simply would'nt
work.....WRONG!! My PK-6 is now completely F*CKED!! It no longer
recognizes the original PROM and to make matters worse I re-initialized
it and wiped out my user presets now I'm left with deafening silence!
I've run the diagnostics and the ROM passes the #14 sound rom test
but when I run the #16 sound data CRC test it reads "invalid" on both
slots 1 & 2. Have I ruined the original ROM?? Any advice here would
  be GREATLY appreciated.

Um, I assume they've taken the very much not compatible audity rom out already? If not, do so. Quickly. If they have, it's possible that they porked the PROM rom, the PK6 main board, or both.

Re: [pk6] HELP!!!!!!!!

2008-07-10 by narfman96

I have an Audity 2000 V2.01 with the same problem. When I purchased
this A2k it was already messed. When the self test diags are run the
CRC for the SIMM always fails. The factory presets all come up
as "not installed" as do any attempts at accessing the ROM's samples.
I have another V1.00 A2k that the ROM works fine in. Somehow the SIMM
memory is wiped in this A2k???? Can anyone explain what has been
wiped from this synth? Now I see Triphammer has this same problem
with his PK-6.

EPR Electronics has told me they can restore the SIMM memory. Is this
feasible??? I'm wondering this for two reasons. Can they still make a
V1.0 A2k into a V2.01.

Thanks for bearing with me (us) on this borderline OT post, Fran

I would like to know the outcome of this as I think i ruined a MP7 by doing almost the same thing. I have a mp7 that no longer reads roms but everything else works and it passes all the same tests. I have it saved for extra parts but sucks It will not read roms any more.

Aaron is the Emu guy in the XL7 group.....you saw his response....

The good news for Cristofe in the PK-6 group (bad news for PK-6 owners like myself) is that the PK-6 hit a new resale low on Ebay this week, $225 with ROM.......

The bad news sounds like it may take some work, repair and/or reprogramming to get that PK-6 up and running......anyone need spare parts that Cristofe could sell from the PK-6 to minimize his losses..........

Re: [xl7] Re: [pk6] HELP!!!!!!!!

2008-07-11 by Bob S.

The PK-6 is a very under rated synth in gerneral and for the series, even though it can host 4 ROMs, has a great mix of sounds in it's original ROM and has an aftertouch keyboard.....well just means I have no reason to sell it at that price, especially since it hosts several of my other ROMS, so it stays along with my XL7 and XL1 Turbo.....
