Anyone running editor/librarian software on Mac OSX -Tiger that can give me some direction? From what I could research, Unisyn seems better, but maybe that's changed- or there's other (even better) software I'm not aware of? My goal is to be able to edit patterns on my Powerbook and release my old iMac (OS9, OMS, eLoader, ect.) to the hounds. Thanks in advance!! Mike

Well, I personally use MOTU Unisyn - it hasn't been updated for a while but the Command Station profile works ok, at least with the MP-7 and XL-7. There is no profile for the PX-7 - fortunately for me I have both the MP-7 and XL-7 ROMs in my PX-7, so Unisyn recognizes the PX as an XL-7. > My goal is to be able to edit patterns on my Powerbook and release > my old iMac (OS9, OMS, > eLoader, ect.) to the hounds. I'm not sure about Midiquest, but Unisyn only has editor/librarian facilities for the patches and the arpeggios, not the patterns. To do pattern dumps I still boot my G4 back into Mac OS 9 - I've been trying to get the USB to work with Virtual PC and Windows XP, but it seems twitchy and won't recognize the port properly. Grr! For patch editing and arpeggio editing, though, Unisyn is ace. It also integrates very nicely with MOTU Digital Performer (automagically updated patch lists, etc.) --- Mibrilane [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize that Unisyn doesn't work with patterns. The arps and patch editing looked cool though. I have the same ROMs you have- even though Unisyn doesn't recognize the PX ROM, can you do any editing with it? I may have to partition the hard drive on my powerbook and install OS 9 so I can boot up in it. Another thing I am going to investigate is some software I stumbled across. I don't know if it would help get eloader working with OSX, but here's a clip of the description. "What is MidiBridge9X? MidiBridge9X is a combination OMS driver and OS X application that allows applications running in Classic to communicate with CoreMidi MIDI devices. MidiBridge9X was developed specifically to allow you to continue to use MIDI applications that only run under Classic. Because there are numerous applications out there that will never be ported to MacOS X, brings an entire world of MacOS 9/OMS legacy applications back to life." Well, it recognizes the ROM as an expansion ROM (Protean Drums ROM) but it doesn't recognize the PX-7 as an instrument - only the MP-7 and XL-7. So, I have my PX set up in Unisyn as an XL-7 with the MP-7, Protean Drums, and Beat Garden ROMs. It works just fine set up that way. I'll have to check out MIDIBridge9X - I've read about that but haven't tried it with E-Loader. Theoretically, E-Loader is a Java program that could be re-compiled for Mac OS X with some tweaking, but I don't think E-mu is interested in continuing support for the Command Stations. --- Mibrilane [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Look for a release with USB support in the Summer of 2002." I keep looking, but it must not be 2002 yet (:p Kidding aside, I'll try the Midibridge software tonight and see how it goes. If there's any success, I'll be sure to post. Thanks again for the info!! Mike

Mibrilane, Glad it worked for you- as usual though, I'm not so lucky. I totally forgot about the problem I had last year when I tried eloader with (my old) powerbook. Somehow, eloader file gets corrupted during installation. I'll have to physically copy the installed file from my old iMac onto a zip disk and transfer to my powerbook. From what I remember, it worked- at least I got to the eloader screen without the "missing file and can't be opened" error message. Are you able to boot in OS9? (just wondering how you ended up with a working eloader app) Thanks for trying it out, at least I know there's some promise. It'd be worth the $30 if it's reliable. Cheers, Mike

The only things I find myself booting into Mac OS 9 are E-Loader and ReBirth. Now that E-Loader works in Classic, it seems I'll be booting into 9 much less often. > Thanks for trying it out, at least I know there's some promise. > It'd be worth the $30 if it's > reliable. I'm not sure if it is worth $30, but it works fine for the free demo 15 minutes at a time, which is enough for me. :D --- Mibrilane [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
