HELP: Problem on power up-all lights on

HELP: Problem on power up-all lights on

2005-08-06 by steve_the_composer

Any suggestions for solving the following problem (possible causes,
solutions, things to check, etc.):

After not using the P2500 for about 3 weeks, I attempted to powerup.
Almost immediately, all leds lit, all segments of the BPM display lit,
and the top line of the menu display were dark boxes. The E-Mu stayed
in that condition until >>manual<< powerdown.

Hi Steve

Have you tried reseating things inside the unit.....like ROMs, cables, etc.
It sounds like the microprocessor hung up during boot up while it was going
out to memory or while it was expecting a response from something......

These things are just specialized computer based systems......

Yes, it could be crystal from the microprocessor oscillator, power up would
force a reset mode and it would stay that way....CCS, do you have any
info/part number/freq./etc info to share so we (the group) know what
replacement part to get.....I can look up some mail order sources....

Thanks for the replies. I unscrewed the E-Mu from the rack, had it
1/2 way out and just to test it, turned it on. IT POWERED UP! I am
hoping that something was ever so slightly loose and just moving it
fixed it. I may open it in a few days just to make sure everything is
seated properly. I will keep the quartz crystal problem in mind, too.

Again, thanks!
