odd sequencer behavior in pattern mode

odd sequencer behavior in pattern mode

2005-04-18 by zone_ahead

i've been having problems with a pattern i created and am trying to
figure out what's making it behave the way it is. it almost acts
like i am maxing the polyphony but i don't see how i can be.

there are only two tracks in the 32 measure pattern, one is some
live keys and the second is a pad. with the pad, i recorded a 16
measure single note on 1.1 and 17.1. However during playback only
the note on 1.l will play and when 17.1 rolls around it pretty much
just skips the note on for the pad the second time.

However, when i start playback at 17.1, it will play the note-on and
when the pattern loops back to 1.1 the pad continues, but as it gets
to 17.1 a second time, it cuts out again.

I also noticed that sometimes the pad will abruptly stop playing
only a couple measures into the pattern when it should last for 16
measures.

I tried to erase all controller events with no success and I also
tried to copy the note from 1.1 and paste it to 17.1 with the same
behavior. I eventually erased all pattern data and rerecorded it,
but again with the same results.

Finally, I just cut it down to a 16 measure pattern and the pad
loops fine over and over. so i'm scratching my head here.

any ideas of where to troubleshoot this?

The next thing I'd try would be shortening it to 15 1/2 measures and
seeing if that worked, or lengthening it (if possible?) to 16 1/2
measures, to see if an overlap works. I guess I'm just suspecting the
end of one note interfering with the firing of the next one.

(Me, I've never tried notes that long. Maybe a series of 8 1/2 meaure
notes, overlapping?)

yeah, actually i was thinking about that today and was going to play
around with changing the note lengths slightly tonight to see if it
made any difference. thanks.
