Just a warning to everyone to be careful connecting/disconnecting your USB cable. I was removing (gently by the way) the cable tonight when the connector snapped off the board and rattled inside the unit. I tried super-gluing it back on (I know I'm an eejit) but it wouldn't hold so I'm getting someone to solder it in the morning. -grimley

Same happened to me. I thought mine had broken away from the PCB but it had just un-clipped itself from the board. I managed to pop in back in.. Your right in what you say though.. all those USB, Firewire etc connections are very prone to damage. I managed to repair a friends ipod yesterday. They had managed to break off the firewire socket. Not only that, they found that if they forced the plug in the socket and moved it around with force (enough to make big black slodges on the LCD!!! animals..)that it might make a connection and start charging. The out come of all this was they had managed to break a track in the middle layer of the PCB, so even though i soldered the socket back on it still didnt work. 45mins later with a multimeter and magnifiing glass i sussed out what was wrong. re-conected the ground to a convenient point and it burst into life.. So yes whatch out for that one.. G Sorry for the off topic, well it was sort of related.. --- In xl7@yahoogroups.com, "Justin Grimley" <grimley@i...> wrote: > > Just a warning to everyone to be careful connecting/disconnecting > your USB cable. Well, I had someone in work here solder it back on. He took great care and used a large magnifying gizmo to make sure none of the PCB tracks were cracked ... but still no joy. USB is toast, so now back to slow-mo midi. -grimley --- In xl7@yahoogroups.com, "gonzinigonz" <gonzini@f...> wrote: > > Same happened to me.
