emu gear

2005-01-19 by lifeistheformofenergy

I personally talked to a few representatives from emu themselves and
they are not manufacturing right now because creative labs bought
them out and decided against it - NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO - I can't
believe this - I really want to buy an xl 7 after using my uncles px
7 with the xl7 rom in it and the vintage synth rom in it - they told
me that the reason why they are not manufacturing is because they
don't think that it will be a good business investment and they think
that it will cost more than they will make ... now I don't know if
ofr where I am going to be able to ever get one !

Dude, Creative Labs bought E-mu *12 years* ago.

But Aaron, he PERSONALLY talked to people from E-MU THEMSELVES. This guy is
down with the info! ;D

Besides the 12 years ago buyout by Creative Labs, E-mu stopped making
hardware almost a year ago, right? Maybe I'm off by a few months, but I seem
to recall the music store blowouts of the command stations around January of
last year, or perhaps a bit earlier. Am I wrong? Hmmm...

all i can say is i love my xl-7, w/protean drum, techno synth construction
yard (tscy), and the original rom that comes w/the xl-7 (the beat garden
maybe?)...anyway.....

my girlfriend always says how the xl-7's drums sound more "real" than all the
other drum machines (kaoss pad, dx200, ermkII, tr505.......)....soooo....i
love the mix of weird electro digital and analog.....its all good. throw in a
fuzzed out guit for good measure.

hang onto this vintage piece of gear and watch it appreciate. dontcha know
obsolescence is everything????? ;-))

XL7s (and other Command Stations) come up on ebay all the time,
typically for around $450 or less. Buy from a seller with good
feedback and a long track record of sales, and its a fairly safe
transaction. Ditto with ROMs. The real issue is that you've bought
into a dead-end product in terms of future ROMs, etc. Not a big
deal to me -- I bought my PX7 and ROMs for the sound it could make
at that time. Emu will probably continue to service broken ones for
a few years, so you're okay there but overall they seem to be very
reliable. No worse really than buying a vintage synth, actually a
bit better because it hasn't been out of production all that long.

Don't forget the one I have for sale for $400 right now! You don't even have to go through the eBay bidding process (although
I have good eBay feedback.) If I don't hear from anyone within a day though, I'll have to put it on eBay.
