USING SONAR 2.0 TO CONTROL MP-7

USING SONAR 2.0 TO CONTROL MP-7

2004-08-18 by simplesam54

I read the manual and read all of master Realm's advice but I still
can't get Sonar 2.0 to control my MP-7 which has additional roms the
X-lead rom, the Protoza rom, and the Producer rom. I don't understand
the sysex stuff at all. Is anyone out there using Sonar 2.0's
sequencer to successfully control their MP-7 or XL-7 if so please
help me out.
I love the fat and cools sounds these commands stations produce and
want to take full advantage of it. I however am not crazy about
their internal sequencers and want to use Sonar 2.0 control them.
I need some "how to" help here. Please. Thanks

P.S. I am real sad they discontinued making this wonderful product.

I just started to teach myself Sonar 3. I have used early versions
of Cakewalk software very successfully to control gear. Sonar has so
much more capability.

Two questions:
Have you had success using Sonar with other gear?
What do you want Sonar to do that it is not doing with the E-mu?

I just basically want to use the MP-7 as a sound module.
I know all the physical setup to do this but can't get the
instruments or patches in the MP-7 set up in Sonar.

Did you do all this?
Get the instrument definiton file from the files section
Copy and past (using notepad for the editor)the MP-7 section into your
own master.ins
Go into sonar, to options, instruments, define, patch names, then
click on the banks on the right page and drag them underneath the MP7
patch names for banks folder on the left - note that you MUST specify
the bank change number for the bank as you install it in the folder.
These are specified at the bottom of the file, in mine like this:
Patch[1667]=E-MU XL7: Pure Phatt: Bank 3
Patch[1666]=E-MU XL7: Pure Phatt: Bank 2
Patch[1665]=E-MU XL7: Pure Phatt: Bank 1
Patch[1664]=E-MU XL7: Pure Phatt: Bank 0
then save the file and start sonar. It should work fine.
