Seems like there is something big going on that is taking up all their time. I clipped this from an email that was forwarded to me. I responded with another request for an XL-7 command station update. I think I'll hang in there quietly for a while longer. Turby, I share your frustration. I'm told that all this takes is a bunch of time to set up, once you understand the midi spec and the editor format. But it's beyond me at this point. I'm not a midi programmer and that puts me at the developer's mercy when it comes to an editor. i'll report back if I hear any more. Peace, Mark __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Well I'm sorry but when you sell a product you also should supply support. This guy(s) at SoundQuest always has something else coming up. A new release, a next service pack, Music Messe etc. I'm trying to get Novation KS series support since June 2003. Please take a look at there site... do you see any KS support yet? Sent them a message three weeks ago... no answer. Sent them a message yesterday... no answer yet. More Midi Quest users over here? Please e-mail them for Command Station support. Finally I got a reply from SoundQuest on the support of the Command Station in there MidiQuest product. And as I thought... promisses, promisses... and that's it. - - - - reply from there sales department (I guess it's also Michael Lambie) - - - - Emu never gave us access to one and now the product is discontinued. We support the Proteus 2000, however, and this will give you access to the shared parameters at least. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - I replied to them again that this is the story everytime someone asks about supporting a product. The last update on there website is from July 2003. I guess the next update will come with the release of a new version, and that's gonna cost you again! Bought there product June 2003 and asked for supporting the Novation KS serie and the Jomox Airbase ever since. The asked me to supply SysEx data. I contacted the manufacturers and sent them everything they needed. Still no support for those machines! And the KS serie isn't discontinued so I don't know what explanation the'll have on that one. Sorry to say it, the company s*cks! BIG TIME! From what I can tell, they will program for it if the manufacturer gives them a unit. Do we need a different version of MidiQuest to program it ourselves? I've been a good boy and have kept quite on this topic, but..... these guys have had the same
opportunities to get a command station as you have had. We haven't had E-MU guards at any music
dealers in years making sure our products don't get into the hands of the" wrong people". The
Proteum editor looks great, and they did their work without any freebee's from E-MU.

Yeah, there's really no reason to think they're ever going to release an editor for the XX-7's, so I wouldn't even bother hounding at Soundquest anymore, no worth the hassle. If people truly need a preset editor, Proteaum does indeed work, though I personally found it easier to just program from the XX-7's front panel still. Proteum works, but I didn't think it was that good of an editor to be honest, too many tabbed pages still. rEalm I've been a good boy and have kept quite on this topic, but..... these guys have had the same opportunities to get a command station as you have had. MOTU seemed to be able to do it for Unisyn - that's what i use these days (when i venture back into Mac OS 9) - it works extremely well, truly a superior editor/librarian for the command station (even works with Arps and Multisetups!)... -- Bruddah Max Lord of the Dance

Interesting... I have no compelling reason to use OS 9 with my XL-7 because it already has OS 2.0, so I'm open to getting a good Mac OS X editor/librarian for it. MOTU has it for $199, which i find to be high. but, if you program a lot or do lots of patch swapping in and out of multiple synths (not worth it for one instrument) i think one could justify the price. $99 to upgrade seems excessive as well. i keep Mac OS 9 around because i can (and i've got about $20,000 in software invested in Classic Macintosh software, not about to ditch them entirely - some have no Mac OS X equivalents. :( -- Bruddah Max Lord of the Dance

My other synths are a Nord Micromodular and a Nord Modular G2, both of which come with their own editors. So I'd only be using Unisyn for the XL-7, which would indeed make Unisyn not worth the money for me. I have to use Mac OS 9 too, actually, because of the Micromodular. I'm still learning my way around the XL-7 (damn, what a DEEP machine!) so I'm not absolutely sure I need to pay $180-$250 for a pretty graphical editor. I started thinking about whether I need one when I realized E-Loader doesn't come with an editor/librarian. Paolo

Given the QuickEdit knobs, the trigger buttons for jumping around in the menus, and the instrument categories I personally don't feel much need (yet) for a computer editor (I prefer editing from the front panel of my Virus, too). And computer editing feels a little clunky to me, with all the MIDI back-and-forthing. It would be nice to be able to see envelope shapes and so forth on occasion, though.

Bruddah, you are making it hard for me to follow robotchas' advice! I just saw on MOTU's website that I can get Digital Performer for $395 list as an upgrade from a "competing product". I'll ask my local store about this - maybe they can offer a package deal on that plus Unisyn. If this is true, I can go ahead and use my Logic Audio Big Box/Delta 66 setup for multitrack audio recording until I'm ready, then go for the competitive upgrade (some places have it for $300) and still use my Delta 66). Nothing against Logic - but with my Nords and XL-7, I don't really care about "losing" Emagic/Apple's soft synths. Paolo

i've been holding out on Unisyn for OS X myself, but i think you've just convinced me! i agree that front panel editing doesn't get much better than the XL-7, but updating patch lists to DP would be pretty nifty for me. and seeing envelopes and such wouldn't hurt either... when you've had a chance to check out its stability/reliability for OS X, will you let the group know? also, with Unisyn 2.1, is there support for the Nord Modular? not the G2 - the older one. by the way - nothing has improved my life more than leaving OS 9, OMS, and FreeMIDI behind forever. you will NOT regret it! rock on --- In xl7@yahoogroups.com, "paolovalladolid" <paolovalladolid@y...> wrote: > > well, the great thing about Unisyn (and i just upgraded to 2.1 for X, so > > we'll see how well that works) is that it presents all of the > parameters on > > one screen with the envelopes graphically displayed. plus it includes a > > graphical arpeggiator editor and publishes the patch names to the > FreeMIDI > > (and CoreMIDI) patch lists, so Digital Performer's patch menus stay

It's in the Files section of the nord_modular Yahoo Group. I haven't tried it, because 1. I still have a couple of Macs that can boot to OS 9 and 2. I'm too focused on the XL-7 anyway (must... keep... GAS... under... control...) -g
