USB problem

USB problem

2004-03-10 by iscrites123

Hi all,

I just bought a second hand XL7 and I'm quite happy with it for the
moment. It looks like what I need (a sequencer for live situation).
Now, I got a pb with the USB recognition in Windows XP. When I plug
the usb cable into my fully booted XL7, I got the message to install
new hardware but when I point to the USB folder, windows says that it
cannot find any information for my device. I tried to manually update
the driver and it didn't work either. I even right-click the .ini
files and chose 'install' but that didn't work either...
I'm not a beginner in computer and Windows, but i cannot solve that
problem. I searched the oemxx.ini files in the Windows INF forlder,
to delete the one that might refer to the 'unknow USB device' but I
couldn't find one. Did someone experienced that pb ?
I'm on XP pro Service pack 1, Asus a7n8x-x mobo, with nvidia chipset.

Also, when I pluged the usb cable on the XL7, I noticed that the usb
connector on the command station was 'moving'. I opened the station
and noticed that the connector isn't hold by anything, except for
four 'legs' that are part of the connector and are soldered on the
board. Is that a know issue ? I add that the xl7 is in mint
condition, so I doubt it has suffered damages from the previous user.
Furthermore I guess that if the connector wouldn't be working,
Windows wouldn't start the install process when I plug the cable into
the XL7, right ??

I hope that someone can help me. Not that I couldn't do without the
USB connector(since apart from speeding the sequence transfer it's
worthless)...

Oh, and yeah, my XL7 is os 2.00 and eloader is 1.1

One more question: since E-mu discontinues its command station, and
will even turn to software product only (from what i've understood),
will there still be some support and os update in the future ?

Thanx a lot
Cheers
IS

Sorry to disagree. Once I got my USB port up and running with E-
Loader 1.1(Win98SE), it was useful to transfer songs and patterns
between the computer and the E-Mu (faster than midi). Also, if your
computer-->E-Mu midi setup is not a closed loop, the usb hookup is
handy for uploading and downloading smfs (patterns and songs).

As I've commented before, you can have both midi and usb hooked up at
the same time--even on two different machines.

As for transferring or editing presets, yeah--its useless.

This was my one major complaint with the xx-7.. I had the same
problem every time I tried installing on fresh Windows installs,
following the directions precisely. The USB support is only half-
assed at best, I'm afraid.

Not for E-Loader, not even a possibility.
