Does anybody know a good tutorial or want to spend a few works about
working with swing/groove templates?

As in XX-7 related, or in general? Check the archives first, as myself
and a guy named Medway had a pretty good (long) conversation about it
early last year.

rEalm, you may have a look at my question about how to set up xx7 quick edit
or prgmbl controler to fx send amount in multimode, do you know if this is
possible? [that was the question already, you dont have to look for it]

>>>LOL, sorry man, my brain is fried today (work's a bit stressful for me
at the moment), what exactly are you looking for in terms of an
explanation? As in "what is swing quantize" or "how do I use swing
quantize on the XX-7's"? Give me a bit more info and I'll be more than
happy to help :) <<<

>>>Off the top of my head, I don't know why that's not working for you,
never done it personally. I think you need to have the effects set to
"Controlled by Preset on Ch.x", and then make sure that Preset on that
channel is the one you use the Preset Patchcords (as opposed to Layer
Patchcords) set up for effects control. I'd have to play with this at
home some before I can say exactly what you need to do. Frustrating I
know, the lack of hands on effects control is one of the only major
bummers for me when it comes to the XX-7s. There's nothing like being
able to crank the delay repeat up to full on a whim to create cooll build
ups live. <<<

what exactly are you looking for in terms of an
>explanation?

i certainly know hat swing quantizing is, but i always done it manualy in my
softsequenzers, because i never was satisfied with the results if i applied
the templates... id might be interesting to listen to some examples of music
and to get explained how the swing was applied. at the xx7 i already play
around with the sing quantize function, but it happens the same to me as in
my softseq, the result isnt that funky as i wish, so i may need some teory
about what kind of swing to apply to what instrument in different styles of
music [basically i do house, techno, freestyle]

i did that and the delay [in this case] was applied to different channels at
the same time,
what i want to do is, for example, assign the delay to the hihats and
control the amount by a knob without affecting other tracks

>I'd have to play with this

thanx a lot

>>>I think I'll try and tailor this response from an XX-7 angle, because a
full on explaination of what swing quantize is exactly and how it works is
beyond the time I have available to post today, and there's others way
more knowledgeable about it than me.

I think the key with any type of "non-standard" quantize (ie, straight up
1/16th, etc) is that if you can plainly hear it, you added too much. I
know that when i add swing quantize ni my tunes, I rarely find the need to
set the amount more than 60-63%, and the swing to around 53-56%. It's got
be subtle, otherwise instead of sounding boring and rigidly quantized,
it'll sounds boring and swing quantized! The point of it is to make a
performance sound more life-like and natural. If you can clearly hear the
effect of the swing quantize, then it no longer sounds natural, it sounds
like an effect!

This holds true in your computer sequencer too, always start with less and
slowly add more swing until you can hear it, then abck off a bit. Cubase's
Iteritive (however they spell it) is great for this, as it adds tiny bits
of the selected quantize each time you hit "Q", instead of just applying
the whole setting at once. For what it's worth though, the swing qauntize
in the XX-7's is still the best I've heard, it's very musical sounding
IMO.<<

>>>Well, keep in mind that if you set up a Preset patchcord to control the
effects, the only thing you can control really is the send amount. So any
channels also using that particular Send will have their amounts increased
as well. The only workaround would be to try and dedicated a Send for
just that track, which can be hard to do with only 4 sends. I hear you on
this one though, and it goes along with what i was saying eerlier about
the hands on aspects of the effects is one of the very few letdowns for
me. <<<
