USB drivers <-> E-Loader v1.1 troubles on one machine

USB drivers <-> E-Loader v1.1 troubles on one machine

2004-02-04 by Mike-E

Hello group,

I've some problems using E-Loader via an USB connection on my laptop.
I also gave it a try on my other PC and it works fine. The USB port
on my laptop seems to be the problem, but it works fine with other
USB gear like a USB Memory Stick.

I've searched the internet on the specific USB port driver that's
implemented (SiS 7001), but none of the given solutions will solve my
problem with it.

When I connect the Command Station, Windows XP keeps telling
me "Unknown Device" and then that the device is installed. When I
look under System -> Devices the Unknown Device appears under USB
devices. I can't update it's drivers with the ones the came with E-
loader.

Does someone recognize these kind of problems? I don't have a second
USB port on the laptop, only a free FireWire port.

I don't know about USB on laptops, but setting up the USB drivers
seems to be a little problematic. A number of people have written
about problems and offered tips (myself included). I believe it was
over six months ago, though. You may want to try searching the
archives.

My experience in a nutshell: I had problems with a partial USB driver
installation that later caused inconsistent success with E-Mu/USB
connectivity. I had to go back to ground level with the USB
installation. Unfortunately, I don't recall the specifics of what I
had to undo. But after I did it, though, the USB drivers installed
fine and worked consistently.

Others made suggestions that may apply to your situation.

Good luck!!

If I open E-Loader I can't select the USB driver as the midi
connection.

I've tried the archive on USB and E-Loader. But the search didn't
return any usefull messages.

I am not sure how far back you went; there are a lot of hits when you
search for "USB." I don't know if it helps, but there seems to have
been a discussion mid July 2003.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/xl7/message/9660

I don't know if you saw that discussion or if there are suggestions
that might be helpful there.

Here's a post where I tried to reconstruct what I did to get a valid,
driver installation on a Win98SE system.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/xl7/message/9347

Here's a post from rEalm that may or may not help with removal and
reinstallation of USB drivers on an XP system.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/xl7/message/8965

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

No, I did not find these messages.

The first link is a discussion about updating the OS via USB. But
that's not my problem, because I've updated the OS via MIDI. Just as
the Read Me file said I should do ;)

The error message described in the second link looks just like I got
overhere... so, getting warmer :)

Finally, the last link. The posting starts with a solution I've
already tried (see my first posting). Win XP will not except
installing the drivers manually. After the first solution the posting
continues... the person also describes the exact same problem as I
have.

As I mentioned before I also tried the XL-7 via USB on my other PC.
That PC is also running on Win XP. So I guess XP is not the only
problem.

Thanks anyway for your help so far. I guess I have to keep on
searching or hoping for someone to come up with THE solution for this
problem :)

Re: USB drivers <-> E-Loader v1.1 troubles on one machine

2004-02-05 by scoot2500

Hi.

I had exactly the same experience when I tried to connect my
P2500 to the Windoes XP machine. It keeps coming up as unknown
device. I forced the install of the drivers, uninstalled
rebooted everything that one could reasonably expect.

I contacted E-MU Tech Support and got a rather condecending
reply explaining how delicate the Windows USB environment
was and that if I wasn't careful, I'd probably have to
reinstall the OS.

I had gone to great lengths to explain the process I'd
followed to them and the reply that I got back was useless.
It said to reinstall and try again. I do not have any USB
issues with other USB devices - only the P2500. I figured
that I'd been in the computer industry for about 18 years
and know bad support when I see it. The crap they sent back
reeked of "they're all idiots that know nother - so we'll
scare them by saying to be careful or they'll have to
re-install the OS". That was the substance of the help. Can't
say I was anything less than incredibly dissapointed.

Wow - that feels great.

The upshot is that I don't use the USB interface on my P2500.
I connect up two midi cables and use it that way.

Not much help in this email - but at least you're not alone,
and possibly wont get help resolving the issue from E-MU. If
you get it worked out, let me know how

Regards, Peter.

Hello Peter,

Could you please check out what kind of USB drivers you have
installed? So what chip set?

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
