NAMM Speculation

NAMM Speculation

2002-01-08 by sigalarm

Well, the big US NAMM show is in a little more than a week. Anyone
care to speculate on what EMu (or anyone else for that matter) will
be showing that is new and shiny?

Bruce

I for one am hoping that they announce an OS upgrade that has some
nicer sounding filters for the P2K family (including our wonderful XL-
7)

Well I think Emu already said they would have a new OS out around NAMM,
but I don't know about new filters. I'm guessing we'll see some more bug
fixes (pattern lengths can't be less than one measure, notes being stuck
when recorded over measures with record quantize on, etc). I'd also wager
the new OS will make the USB port function, and that a new version of
E-Loader will be released to take advantage of that too (Preset saving as
well?). New features wish list?

1. Hmmm, it'd be cool to see a field in the "Paste Clipboard" screen that
let you specify the amount of times to paste.

2. A way to select whether Paste commands Overwrite or Merge the MIDI
Data. Both of these features (#1 above) would save me so much time!
Nothing like trying to copy measure 3 through out an 8 measure previously
recorded pattern. You've got to cut the data you don't want twice, then
copy the measure you do want. Then you've got to paste, scroll, scroll,
paste 7 times :)

3. Hmm, a warning notice if you're about to overwrite a preset that's
linked to another one.

4. A graphical Preset Editor for the PC, although I know that's pushing
it :)

Personally, I would like to see a ROM expansion for the Proteus
series synths that has the sound set from the Orbit 3....has anybody
else on this board heard those sounds?!?! DAY-UM!
So I just got my XL-7 last Saturday. I've had limited time to fool
with it, so even after the little I've done, I'm finding out just how
much this thing has under the hood. ...and to think I was impressed
with the XL-1.
Also....anyone know if the "E-Loader" software allows for proper
archiving of user banks, or is that strictly a function of sysex dump
to a sequencer?
Thanks,
Steve Anthony

Stick a Techno Synth ROM and a Beat Garden ROM in your XL7 and you
have an Orbit3 in there.

Cheers!

Sonic,............also, anything that you need to know about the
Orbit 3, it's ROM's, it's demo's, specifications,
etc..............can be found here.........

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/orbit3

I have had the TSCY#9084(Techno Synth Construction Yard)ROM
since "99" in my P2K and just added the Beat Garden#9063 to the P2K
last month. SWEEEET! Very nice addition to the original Techno
sound ROM.

I have all the complete demos at the link above and go to the
bookmarks section for a link to Rob's site for individual preset
demos.

Later,

M2

I have the TSCY expansion in this XL-7, but the dooood at the music
store told me that the Orbit also had it's own chip in it; different
from the two existing expansions.....if that's not true, I guess I'm
half way there, and dooood at the music store is a rock, and
shouldn't be selling gear like this.

Right!! Thanks. I've heard the demo's and I love them (for a demo's
sake), so I know what my next addition to this XL is going to be.

Steve,

There IS a version 2 of the Techno ROM(Has arps in bank 3 and a mix
of the original extention presets in bank 2). If you look in the
files section of the link I gave you earlier, open up the Orbit 3
manual, go to the appendix and check the preset listings by bank
compared to the individual bank pages that I have listed in the
Techno ROM folder. I have the original ROM purchased back in "99"
which didn't have the arps.

I JUST got my ROM this past weekend, so I'm pretty sure I have the
newer version (2). If I'm not correct it's been out for quite
sometime now. I'll check out that file section (I don't know if you
noticed, but I joined the message board you directed me to :o)).

Steve,

The easiest way to check the ROM is to go to preset 127 in bank 3
(which will usually be a default or template as Rob put's in)and it
should give you the ROM version #. Let me know which one you have.

Later,

M2

p.s. Thanks for joining
