USB cables

USB cables

2003-08-30 by Jacob Talkington

Hey guys. I've wanted a USB cable for the XL-7 to back up my
patterns with for some time, but wasn't about to pay $25 for the
privelage (Belkin's a freakin' ripoff). Tonight however I found a
store that has several 12' cables that work with the XL-7 (the
chunky squarish printer-cable type) for $4 ea. If anyone's looking
for a cheapie, give me a holler :)

It's very simple to open the unit up and take a look. I can't remember if
the USB port is soldered on the board or not, but if it's not, you can
probably just push it back in the socket. If it needs to be soldered,
you'll have to send it to an Emu service center.

I've seen a couple postings here with machines locking up. I posted this
solution (Hopeful solution) before so give it a try.
Open your XX-7 and push down on any chip in a socket. Many times during
shipping, the chips can vibrate loose and cause all kinds of Havoc. (mmmmm
Havoc) When I used to work more with touring acts, this was a very common
problem and a problem I also had when all my gear was moved from LA to
seattle. If your machine really got confused, You may need to reinitialize it. I'm
not sure of this procedure off hand but I betcha rElm knows this off the top of
his head.
