Most SMPS power supply faults are fixed by simply replacing the electrolytic caps. Any reasonably experienced electronics hobbiest would be able to do that

Ruling out a power supply problem is a good place to start, however it is unlikely that that would fail. the XL and 2000 line of units have pretty decent PSUs.
