You do need an Ultra series Emu sampler to do this. You do need Flash ROM to do it. Using a standard SIMM won t work for a number of reasons, not the least

Unfortunately, there s no way to set duration (or gate ) in grid edit mode. There is in step edit (the gate parameter as a percentage of step resolution).
