Re: [xl7] Re: Trouble loading audity 2000 files..

I got part of the way there, and then real life interceded...

It's a little more difficult than a 'search and replace', since the position, and not the actual code is the known quantity - undoubtably the code for the audity ROM is in plenty of other places in the sysex, specifying something completly different. Also, the second half of the patches involve even more detailed conversion.

For the first half of the patches, you just need to find out where in each patch in the sysex the rom id resides. The easiest way may be to push the audity sysex into your xl-7. change just the rom id of the first patch, in all four layers, and then dump it out again. The number which has changed needs ot be changed in all the following sysexes. This is probably easiest to do in excel - in fact I got everything all set up for the conversion, and simply needed to locate the sysex using my xl-7 when I got sidetracked by life. Just convert the systex to decimal, and load it as a 'space delimited' text file (as opposed to tab delimited) and you have a file you can work with.

(Interesting bote - for some reason, the audity sysexes are jumbled. Each patch is loaded in 4 sets of sysex messages, with set 2 and 4 sent before set 1 and 3. This means that the sysex code is out of order. This isn't an issue for this kind of 'search and replace' job, but is if you wanted do more major conversions).

For the second half, (the audity 'extreme' patches) it gets more complicated. First, you need to change the ROM id. However, that's not enough - the samples have been shifted from their position in the original ROM. This means you need to

1. Find the 4 spots in each patch where each layer's sample number is stored. You cna do this the same way you found the rom id.
2. Convert the sysex from hexadecimal to tab delimited decimal, and load it into a spreadsheet program, such as excel.
3. Create another column in excel that is a subtraction of the first.
4. Replace the first column with the second.
