Yeah, drK pointed this one out to me when I first got the XL-7, and it helps a lot. I save all of my presets with some reference to the Pattern they are used in, and I save all of my presets seperately for each pattern too. That way I can fire up any pattern and know I don't have have to worry about tweaking and saving a Preset that's used in another Pattern. Here's another housekeeping tip I use a lot. Make yourself a spreadsheet that has cells for all of your presets. IE, 000:0-127:0, 000:1-127:1, etc. Don't worry about filling in the Preset names, just make a table that has the actual Preset numbers listed. With this in hand, you can go through each Pattern and cross out the Preset numbers being used on each Track. I find it easiest to put the view on Preset, then just use the Channel/Track up and down buttons to scroll through each track (check your mute buttons to see which tracks actually have data on them too). Anyway, this allows you to cross out all of the Presets that you're actually USING, leaving the Presets that aren't saved as part of Pattern uncrossed. Once I have gone through all of my Patterns, I'll then copy the default Preset to all of the uncrossed User locations. This way, I get rid of Presets I'm not using, and then when i am working on the Xl-7 and need to save a Preset, I can just start at location 000:0 and scroll until I see the next location where the Default Preset is stored. The procedure only takes 20-30 minutes depending on how many Patterns you have. A good project for those days when you're just not wanting to do music.... rEalm I especially like the Idea of naming your presets with the song name, my user presets are a mess, I dont even know which ones ive saved.
