I have to agree.  I normally assign my patch cords from 24 down and almost
every time I end up "farming" some of the default assignments.  In general I
find it better to have a number of specific preset templates for common
sound-types.  For example a bass template or a percussion template.  Many of
the default patch cord assignments make little sense in these situations.
