Robert- Even though you emailed me off-list, so did some others with the same questions, so I'll just send the reply back to the list: --------------------------- First of all, if you look at the XL-7 Presets, the very last one is a blank template. No waveforms have been assigned, and all the patchcords are empty. This is the blank Preset I was referring to, all Emu modules have one in the very last Preset location. I saved this Preset to User location 000:0, so that when ever I want to make a new sound, I can just scroll with the data wheel to the left real quick and have my blank preset ready to go. When I want to make a new Preset, I just press Preset Edit, and then select the first edit menu which is Preset Name. If you scroll right once (or press Track mute button 1 again while in Preset edit), you'll get to the field that lets you assign the different base waveforms to the Preset. By using the track up and down buttons to the left of the display, you can assign different waveforms for each layer. This is what I meant when I said I scroll through the waveforms instead of the presets when I make my own sounds. Next I copied a blank pattern to all of my unused Pattern locations (using E-Loader it's pretty quick, still takes time though). Once you get a whole bank of blank patterns, it's really quick to do this. So that whenever I need to work on new pattern, I have nice blank sequencing canvas already to go, and I don't have to scroll through tons of factory patterns. After that, I assigned that blank Preset to all tracks on an empty pattern, and then I saved the current Multisetup calling it something like "Default Multi". You see, if there's nothing recorded in a pattern, it won't save the preset assignments for the tracks. A Multisetup will do this though, it saves all the settings for global, Preset assignments and midi settings. In addition, when you first power up the XX-7, the last used Multisetup will load, which includes all of these settings. This way, everytime I power on my XX-7, by default all my tracks have the blank Preset assigned. I even take this a step further (I'm anal, I admit it) and do things like make sure my Effects Sends are all at 1, and that all of my global, effects, and midi settings are set up the way I want when I save my "Default Multi". Not anal enough? I also saved that Blank Preset to all of my unused User Preset locations (now that takes time!). This is nice for two reasons: 1. I always know when I'm in a User Preset Bank, versus a XL-7 Preset bank. Since the User Banks come from the factory with duplicates of the XL-7 bank presets, it can be slightly confusing when you're working fast and in a groove. 2. When I save my own Presets, it's easy to see where the next available free location is. I just start at 000:0 (err...000:2 nowadays) and scroll until I see the next Default Preset, then I save my Preset over it. rEalm Could you explain it in more details about your setup of blank presets. Thanks Robert [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
