To be fair: 1. I do not recall seeing any literature from E-mu promising to update any O.S. Perhaps it could be argued that such has become expected of any synth being released these days where the O.S. can be upgradeable over midi, but still, I don't recall any promises. I could be wrong. If the unit didn't sound good and appear to be good (not to mention get favorable reviews from respected magazines like Sound on Sound) I might not have bought one. If I never got another O.S. upgrade from the day I bought it, it would still be what I chose to buy and would still have plenty of utility as a fine sequencer (perhaps not the best but hey!) and a great synth. In fact I got it for the synth mainly and the knobs as a upgrade for the XL1. 2. the ASR-X was that of Ensoniq, not E-mu and I am pretty sure that Ensoniq called it quits on the ASR-X before being bought out. I have an ASR-X as well and Ensoniq did come up with at least 3 O.S. upgrades for the original version and I believe 1 for the "pro" version. I am not sure that E-mu signed on to do diddly for the ASR- X (although I wish they did). 3. I am very happy to be looking forward to a new O.S., but I am usually equally happy to hear (strange as it may sound) that a final o.s. has landed, faults and all, that there will be no more, EVER! It allows me to stop thinking about features or lack of features and just get on with using the instrument and focusing on what is good. My minimoog is WAY faulty if you ask me in the context of a possible O.S. upgrade! But there isn't; and in that perspective, that baby is amazing. Perspective is everything. In closing, I mention all of this because I don't agree necessarily with the idea that we are entitled to upgrades unless promised in literature, or if the unit seriously does not do what was promised in literature. I am not sure the Command Stations fall into those categories. And we shouldn't feel too bad or put out about the HEAVY FAVOR of saying simply, "Thank you E-mu," along with the people there like Sean who ARE E-mu. "Thanks Sean, thanks E-mu" Ravi p.s. C'mon hurry up, get cracking on the O.S. upgrades pronto!! damn it! No good dead goes unpunished. If you don't hurry I will write bad reviews!! :) --- In xl7@y..., "david jones" <spec@s...> wrote: > I find it currious that emu "chose" to update the os. the current os > is still quite buggy, but this machine has the option to go in the > books as the best machine for the job.
