Re: [xl7] Question about the MP-7/XL-7 sequencer

2002-09-24 by Will Cook

Well, in my opinion, the MP7 is Phatt(Of Course)! I
don't know if some people actually realize the
tremendous POWER in this machine. If you buy it...use
your investment....TAKE THE TIME unlike so many others
to actually learn the MP7 ....make it an extension of
your body and mind....and there is no music you cannot
create.

There a a bazillion sounds in that machine.... using
the transpose button back and forth through different
sound banks....you could spend hours alone just SOUND
Browsing! I know that I do, because when I am
composing a track....I look for perfect sound
matches.... and with all the modulator tweaks and
transposes....no one has any excuse not to be able to
get funky with this machine...

I suggest playing with it in the store a bit before
you purchase, see if you like the presets and
sounds... with a little time ( if you have skillz )
you can actually produce a product as good or better
than the presets.... Once you get tricky with
creating your preset, tricks with the bar length,
quantize(when to use it /when not to,etc...etc..) you
will become a god of R&B and Hip Hop tracks.... I
know I got a tune I could sell to Wu-Tang Right now if
they heard it.... Sounds like some shit off of Ghost
Dog- Way of the Samurai....but alot more involved with
symphonys lightly fading in and out, etc., etc.... I
have only had this box about a week, and I can use it
to its full capacity (almost).

What you DON'T wanna do is go out like some people and
buy a $2000 Triton keyboard.... yeah, it is fancy
with a touch screen and all and it sounds Wonderful!!
But I guarantee you, most people only use that
keyboard to 40%-60% of its FULL capacity... it is a
mad waste of cash! The only people who should even be
allowed to buy such a machine is a professional
musician/ keyboard player. I know people who bought
the Triton and can't even play the piano!! So you
lose ability in the skill set alone.

Shop wisely, it is an investment....and oh, don't
worry about the damn MC-909....there will be a better
model after that....and after that....and after
that!!!! It depends on your budget... You can go and
buy the newest Akai for about 3 grand!!! I know ain't
NOBODY got shit on that box...I know, I have seen it!
But who has 3 Grand for 1 piece of equipment????
P-Diddy perhaps?? But hey, I wouldn't speculate that
some improvement ideas won't derive from the MP-7.
What counts is, it works great, it is actually a tool
that does what it says it does.... and that is, in
the right hands, produce some mighty Phatt beats, with
less the effort.

How many times have you bought a cleaning product or
medicines that actually work like they advertise...
very few. The MP7 is the opposite, it is great
architecture for the price...I must admit being a
computer expert.

Invest Wisely!

P.S. If you do buy it.... use restraint like I
did.... I was VERY tempted to play with it like a
toy, but it is best to read some of the manual, learn
some basic commands, learn how to interface it with
your PC, it will save you time off the phone with tech
support. And you will master it ALOT faster. Use it
like the TOOL it is...if you learn this machine inside
out... WHOA...hold on for the ride.

And NO, I do not work for EMU.... and I wouldn't stick
up for the product if it sucked. I am not one to
defend a product just because I spent money on it and
feel stupid... I would let everyone know.... it
works great, I coulda spent 700 bucks on ALOT worse! Truly.
