Aaron,Thanks for your reply. Is there a way to record, say, midi channel 04a on track1, and then record midi channel 1a on track 1? or do i always have to have an open track to merge from??
No problem. Yes, in one of two ways:
First, set track 1 to be "Multi A" (near the end of the Pattern Edit menu). Then:
Method 1. With rechannelize ON (or record), you can just change the CHANNEL (not track) on the XL-7 to the channel you want to record. You can even do this without stopping recording. Tip: Try using the middle 4 digit display set to Track/Channel, press the Edit button, and use the encoder to change channel quickly.
Method 2: With rechannelize OFF, use your controller keyboard's transmit channel to select channel. This may or may not be easier, depending on you keyboard.
I'd recommend method 1 because it also works for the pads and with external gear (i.e. another synth connected to the MIDI Out of the XL-7).
