Of course a single XL-7 is not far as good as Reason, since Reason is 
a whole "virtual" hardware rack.

But real synths like the XL-7 together with other synthesizers, 
samplers, mixers and effect proceesors in a real hardware rack is far 
better than Reason imho. That's why I prefer the XL-7. It's just a 
bit more expencive.

Also, real synths is more fun to bring to stage.
