If you really want to get blown away, try Reason with Live (from Ableton.) This makes a formidable laptop weapon for the beat-oriented performer/composer. However, I don't believe that software fully replaces the 7's. The reliable hardware interface, great sounds and overall "dedicated-ness" of the Command Station concept has both appeal and advantages (...you'll never get an audio gltich because email has arrived, etc...) I love it all -- it's great creating patterns on the '7, then sampling it into Live, then adding stuff with Reason through ReWire, then syncing it all back up with the '7.
