Basically whenever you have a digital signal there is a clock sent as well. With SPDIF it can be either the soundcards or the instrument/mixer/whatever. You have to designate one of these as the master. If you tell your soundcard/mixer or whatever that the XL-7 is the master everything will be fine. The layla has this option as well as the Gina/Darla.
