You
can allready tell they don't expect you to use any other sequencer, two
midi outs but only one in. No fine tempo settings.
You
may want to slightly shift the offset time on tracks where notes are happening
at the same time, if there is too much data you run the risk of overflowing the
XL7's midi buffer. This will make you lose note off events, timing events
etc. Also be aware that the XL7 retransmits to itself every time you hit
start (Program changes, song position, setup information, whatever) so if you
start/restart it cuts off the previous command before it has time to complete,
basically corrupting midi messages if you do too much. Give yourself a gap
at the beginning of a song (preferably at a nice slow tempo like 60bpm with a
tempo change at the begining of the actual song) to let the XL7 transmit
all of it's settings.

Subject: Re: [xl7] Another XL-7 crashes hanging itself error error ARGH ;)
Yeah, I've been getting a lot of lock ups too the last couple of weeks, which is a bummer. Total lockups, notes still sounding (MIDI panic function won't even work), all the leds come on, needs to be power cycled in order to work again :(
It was weird as for awhile there I had no problems at all with it, then all of a sudden it started happening more and more frequently. I think that the XX-7's sequencer doesn't like to sync with EXT MIDI clock, all of my crashes happen when I'm either using the Micro Sync, or Cubase as the master. By itself the XL is fine for me. To test this, I connected it to my girlfriend's K2600XS and tried getting it to lock by randomly and quickly hitting stop, start, rec, stuff like that. Sure enough I got it to lock two more times this way, while on it's own nothing happened. Weird, it might just be coincidence too, but it does seem to happen more frequenctly while synced...
Aaron, is there a way to reset the OS, without losing the User Presets and Patterns? Sorry for the comparison, but on the mc505 you could reset the OS by powering on while holding shift, then scrolling until it said Reset System. This was great as a monthly reset seemed to make that box run smoother, give you less lock ups. Just curious. I'd still like a run down of all the functions that become available when you power on while holding the cursors. :)

I sent the XL-7 back since I wanted it "repaired". The XL-7 was
hanging several times per week. The problem occurs at any time, when
I press the start button, when I change pattern etc...
They sent me back a completley new XL-7. Same problem. I upgraded the
OS to the latest version yesterday. Same problem.
I wonder if the XL-7 is like this...
