Emu XL-7 & MP-7 User's Group

Some diagnostic questions. (I am assuming you have no midi cables 
going out of XL-7 or going into XL-7.)

1. Do the midi in/midi out leds flash when the problem is happening? 
Do the flashes coincide with the random notes?
1a. If midi out led is on constantly, set TRANSMIT MIDI CLOCK to off.
If midi out led flashes along with random notes, either monitor or 
record and examine (external software or internal sequencer). 

2a. What is the KEYBOARD CHANNEL set to? Does changing this change 
anything (such as the channel with the random notes)?
2b. Are you in Quick-edit mode? If so, try the other modes. Does 
this affect the problem?

3. This is a long shot, but try setting all PROGRAMABLE KNOBS to 
ext. Does this affect the problem?

4. Another long shot: What is TRIGGER BUTTONS FUNCTION set to? If it 
is set to Play Note Events, try changing it to Slect Patterns. Does 
this affect the problem?

BTW, what OS does you XL-7 have?
