Re: [xl7] New owner ... pattern record and cubase ... bug???

2002-02-11 by erik_magrini@Baxter.com

I am having problems when I have the XL-7 synced to Cubase and I want to
jump into grid record mode (hold play then hit record). The XL-7 will
only allow me to record with the preset from the track I originally had
selected. So for instance I start with track 9 for bass and I then change
to track 1 for kick, it will only record more bass notes even though the
pads are playing the kick when I hit them.

>>>This can be very confusing on the XL-7, as the track select buttons to
the left of the LCD select differnt things depending on which screen/mode
you're in. First of all, realize that any track, can be any MIDI channel,
they're not fixed assignments. While extremely flexible, this can also be
very confusing too, especially if start moving around while recording!
Here's a quick breakdown:

While in Pattern mode, those buttons do change the track as you mentioned.
However, if you press Preset to select a new Preset, they now control the
MIDI Channel, not the track number. So while you may been on track 9
originally, pressing the track select buttons while looking at the preset
name means you're just changing the channel used on THAT track (#9). Your
best bet is to make sure you leave Preset mode, select the correct track,
then go back into Preset mode to scroll through your sounds. Also, if
you're doing GRID recording, pay close attention to what channel is shown
in the display when you enter this mode, as it defaults to the last
channel you recorded on, NOT the current track! Read my FAQ in the files
section of this group for more info on this relationship. <<<

Second problem ... when in step record ... how to I go back a step? I
know I can go forward by hitting Play but ...

>>>Nope, you can't do it. Step-time record is pretty rudimentary
currently, you can't tie notes either :( <<<

And lastly ... in realtime record, what is the easiest way to delete or
overwrite a bum note when recording in a loop?

>>>I believe you hold down that note while pressing ERASE as the pattern
plays. <<<

Thanks for your help

>>>De nada, welcome to our group! <<<
