I know what you mean! I haven't found away around that, other than
taking the origional pattern, reorganizing it, and saving it as
another pattern. I'm definately interested in finding another way.
Another question I have that is similar to this topic is; how do I
get the LFO to always start at a specific place when I deciede to
unmute the track?
Anyways, some of the tricks I use for creating a song are;
-While starting a pattern I'll use each track as a measure. Setting
the pattern measure to sixteen, I can get sixteen different measures
then paste them together on another "master" pattern in the order
that I want them. I'll also be able to play between two different
measures of the same instrument, at the same time, to create a new
measure. So, it opens up a lot of new ideas.
-Another thing I'll do is play with the pattern of measures in song
mode. For example, I might have an eight measure pattern that I'll
paste in different orders; like Step1...1measure, Step2...1measure,
Step3...2measure, which gives me a total of four measures. Then I'd
probably do that again to give me another four measures, for a total
of eight. You can change it up alot like 1,1,2,4 or 2,2,4 or
4,1,1,2 or 4,4,8 ect.
Good topic for a post! I'm interested in what everyone has to say.
I'm kinda new to this thing, too. So, any ideas are probably going
to help.
Peace
PS, if you have a software sequencer, it might make the editting and
composiion somewhat easier. Although, that in itself can open up a
whole nother can of whoop ass! It might be frustrating at first, but
its always good to learn how the XL-7 integrates into your studio
setup. Now that I think about it, once you get the hang of it,
editing the events in the XL-7 isn't deficult at all. I just don't
like having to constatnly scroll through different screens when my
dial-nob is totaly wack. I mean, one second I'm a click away from
the number I want and the next click it jumps to over 100 away. I
need to get that fixed.
