Hi did you link the midi out back to the midi in with a midi cable when you did the test? The XL-7 reads the data back in to check the ports. If the data didnt come back , ie no cable loop it will fail. If you did make the loop correctly then maybe you have a problem else where. Classic would be dry joints around the pins on the sockets. There never the best as there just PCB mounted. Other faults could be damaged ic on the midi in or damaged ic / driver stage on the midi out. Try to chech them individually, maybe using a PC with seq software if you dont have anyother midi hardware?
