Hello Dan, E-Loader is super easy to use for organizing and backing up your patterns and songs. It is also great for transfering all the midi info instantly to a computer based sequencer. Unfortunatly, E- Loader doesn't allow you to save your preset banks, which is what you want to do. I have Cakewalk HS and using that I'm able to download System Exclusive Data enabling me to create backups for my user presets. Sounds difficult, but its not. I hadn't heard of MIDIOX until I read your post, so I thought I would check it out. To tell you the truth it was just as easy to create the user preset backups on MIDIOX as Cakewalk. You shouldn't have much trouble if you follow these directions step by step. Once you know how to do it, its fast and easy. Here's how. Make sure the MIDI cables are connected properly. Then in MIDIOX go to the "Options" menu and select "MIDI Devices" In "MIDI Devices" make sure the correct MIDI inputs and outputs are selected. Next go back into the "Options" menu and make sure the "Pass Sysex" has a check mark next to it. You should only have to set-up that stuff once; not everytime you want to do something using MIDIOX. Plus, those are the same things you would have to do in all other sequencing programs. I had to do all that in Cakewalk, too. Now on to dumping the presets into MIDIOX for saving. Go to the "View" menu and select "SysEx" A window called "SysEx View and Scratchpad" appears. Go to its "SysEx" menu and select "Receive Manual Dump" A window called "SysEx Receive" pops-up and it should say (waiting for completion) 0 bytes received. Now MIDIOX is ready, all you have to do is tell the Command Station (XL-7, ect.) to send the information. This is how you do it. Go into the MIDI menu by pressing the MIDI button on your Command Station. Using the scroll wheel, scroll till the menu reads "Send MIDI SysEx Data" and press the cursor key to move the cusor down. Here you can use the scroll wheel to select different types of SysEx Data to be sent. Scroll till you see "Bank X User Presets" (X standing for the bank of presets you want to send) You will also notice that you can send one specific user preset at a time if you scroll just a little bit further. Once you've decided which preset or bank of presets you want to send press the Home/Enter button which should be blinking. Instanly the download will begin and you should notice the "SysEx Receive" window in MIDIOX, that previosly said (waiting for completion) 0 bytes received, is now receiving bytes. The process could take a couple of minutes depending on what you decided to send/receive. When the Command Station stops sending information, you may have to press done in MIDIOX eventhough it still says (waiting for completion). Once MIDIOX has finished receiving all the data, Go to the "Display Window" menu and select "Save As". Then name the file whatever you want. Now if you want to reload the saved presets from MIDIOX onto your Command Station, here is what you do. Get to the "SysEx View and Scratchpad" window like you did previosly by going to the "View" menu and selecting "SysEx". Then in the "SysEx View and Scratchpad" window, go to the "File" menu and select "Send SysEx File". A list of files will pop-up among them should be the file you saved your presets as. Make sure you are selecting the correct file, cause it will instantly start the transfer of information to your Command Station. Your Command Station doesn't have to be in any specific mode to allow this to happen. You could have just turned it on or be in any of the menus or screens. There is one thing you should be carefull of. The transfer will replace/erase any preset which is in that spot being downloaded. Meaning if you have new kickass presets in say 001-012 of bank 0, and you download a previously saved version of bank 0 from MIDIOX or other software, it will erase your kickass presets and replace them with the older ones. So it might be a good idea to make a back-up of whatever new presets you got before downloading previous versions. I know it sounds like alot, but it only takes a couple of seconds once you've actually done it before. It would be cool if E-MU came out with an updated version of E-Loader that allows us to save the presets. Anyways, I don't know if there is any easier ways of doing it. Also, I happened to find a decent free sequencer program. I haven't used it myself, but its spec's are great for a free sequencer and there are no restrictions. Its not really made for audio recording, but its got the capability of one-one minute audio track. So if your interested here is the link. http://www.anvilstudio.com/upgraden.htm Goodluck Bro! --- In xl7@yahoogroups.com, "danieljtb" <danieljtb@h...> wrote: > Hi all need to hava a simple to use software program to backup my > user presets to...have midiox, but not knowing anything about midi..... > > any good programs easier to use than midiox any free sequencers > ' > thanks Dan
