Re: [xl7] Presets stored within pattern ?????

2005-01-05 by José Sáez

The thing was more stupid than i thought at the beginning:

I control my XL7 with a Novation KS4 keyboard. Everytime i turn on both instruments, i change the KS4 settings to "Local OFF" so the keyboard won't play a pad while i'm playing drums.

But the KS4 sends the LOCAL OFF midi message through its midi out port, and the KS4 cleverly accepts it as an order to turn its own local control OFF.

That means that when i played any pattern, the sequencer didn't obey the PROGRAM and BANK messages, and then all the patterns played with the same awful sounds.

Easy, and pretty silly too. It had nothing to do with multisetups or the ability to store program values in the pattern. :-doh !

By the way, i'm running my XL7 on a 220 - 110 converter and it gets warm, but not hot. I can feel the difference, but i'm waiting a good running in order to actually measure the temperature with a thermometer. Now it's 30º C (86º F) here in Chile, and it's almost midnight. Feckin' weather.

Hey, thanks everyone for the prompt answers. I'm running a test now about warmth with 220 / 110 V settings.

I've been running the XL7 all this time at 220, and i'm wondering if that's healthy or not.

Presets are NOT stored with the Pattern. Presets are completely
    > independant from Patterns, if you tweak a Preset, then save a
    > PATTERN, all
    > of the tweaks you made to the Preset will be gone next time you turn
    > on your XX-7. Presets are independant entities that are stored

the Preset, not the actual Preset data.

-->Let me make this even MORE confusing. :) Tweaks ARE stored with the
pattern. :) Any knob twiddles are kept in the pattern (and song). And I
haven't tried any sysex in my tracks yet, but can't you store sysex
    within the patterns?

But yes, He's right to clarify that the preset itself is not stored in
the pattern, but a preset location (think PATCH CHANGE) is.
