Early Rizer Filter Problem

2004-08-22 by steve_the_composer

I have uploaded an *.asf file temporarily to demonstrate a problem
of popping sounds I ran across with a preset using the EarlyRizer
filter. On another board, another user was also having a problem
with a preset (Vintage ROM) that used this filter. I am not sure if
others faced this problem, but here's a solution I found (in case it
helps others).

I isolated the offending layer by turning off layers in the
offending preset. After testing scores of possibilities, I found a
layer level patchcord as follows:

MidiE --> VEnvAtk  -60

By increasing MidiE (thereby decreasing the VEnvAtk), I got rid of
the popping. If you listen to the EarlyRizer.asf file, you will
notice it goes away after about 20-25 seconds. Yes, it changes the
sound slighly, but its better than the popping and still retains
much of the filter characteristics.

Sorry its an asf file; my mp3 program isn't working. Also, since the
file takes up a large chunck of space, I will be removing it
shortly. If you faced this problem and found other solutions, I'd
be interested in them. Thanks.
