Hey Gonz, The command stations have a much greater range of sounds, and the sounds can be edited in far more depth. The XL ROM alone seems to have more varied sounds than the 505, while covering the same general area (909/808/TB303 sounds etc.) the arpeggiators are much more powerful, and well suited to the instruments. The Beat Garden has some great guitar sounds, paired with much more convincing arpeggiators than the 505. The basic tones on the command stations are much richer than those on the 505, and the depth of editing available, especially the filters, completely blows the 505 away. In terms of the interface, the sliders on the 505 are hard to beat, (although the multi function knobs on the command stations are great) and there are only 2 effects processors compared to 3 on the 505. The effects routing is also more limited in some ways, as there are only 4 sends, compared to the 505's 7+7 drums, but the effects are of a higher quality IMHO. Also, on the Command Stations, you can send a sound to a seperate output, and still send it to the on board effects processors, which is not possible on the 505.
