That's a good idea, disecting the pre-existing patterns can often be a 
good starting point for learnign how unfamiliar styles of music are 
written.  If ou have access to a software sequencer, you might want to 
load up the Pattern data in that too, as it can be easier to see excatly 
where the notes are placed for each track then.

Found another useful starting point in the XL-7 - Pattern #127 
("Stepper").  As part of my XL-7 learning process, I'm going to build 
a sequence using that pattern as a building block.  After all, 
imitation is a time-honored traditional learning method.
