RE: [xl7] Grr!

2004-01-08 by Andre Lewis

I know that Aaron will post that this is a bad idea, however I think if all
else fails...

1) Backup all your patches and do a full midi dump to a NEW patch library
(If the patches themselves are corrupted you won't want to overwrite your
old ones) etc.

2) re-flash your memory

What I think it may be is Cell decay (Leading to corruption) from the
various patch writes. You may be hitting it first because you have
consistently been using your Command Station more than most of us on this
list. I think that when you reflash it must check to see if the cell has
gone bad and writes to an alternate cell that is fine. The compact
operation forces a lot of writes across a large number of cells, that is one
of the reasons it isn't an automatic function - and it may have been the
straw that broke the camels back.

Just a thought,
Andre

Subject: [xl7] Grr!

My XL-7's possessed or something, last night it was acting up like crazy!
Doing all of the following:

- Presets were panning weirdly, even with no patchcords controlling this.
- Two of my snare presets are now insanely loud, I have turn the AmpVol
down to -50 or so just to make it reasonable, with only 1 layer too. They
were just fine previously at +4 too.
- Randomize Preset takes close to 20 seconds to do it's thing now???
- The data wheel will sometimes scroll the opposite way I'm turning it.
- The menus change screens very slowly (5 seconds ???) while Patterns are
playing back.

Anyone seen any of these before?

I just had to compact last week, so I don't think that's it. All of the
patterns are pretty light information wise, so I don't think that's it
either. Damn, I hope I don't need another XX-7, money's too tight right
now :( Although it would be nice to have a new PX-7...
