Re: [xl7] Question for Virus User

2003-11-18 by erik_magrini@Baxter.com

Well the Virus will definitely give you some dirty sounds, especially with
the new Moog filter. However, it's sort comparing apples to oranges IMO.
Th Virus is a VA synth, while the Karma is ROMpler with a VERY nice
interactive arp feature. The Virus is certainly a lot easier to program
than the Karma, but it's also limited in the types of sounds you can make,
just by it's very nature. You're not going to be able to play a guitar or
piano patch on the Virus for instance, so if you use a lot of 'real'
instrument sounds, you're going to be disappointed in that regard.

I've used a lot of Korg products (my first keyboard was a Korg
workstation), and I know the Karma pretty well too (was going to get one
last year), so if you'd like me to compare certain features, feel free to
ask.

I know Realm uses one. Anyway I have a Korg Karma. It is nice, has
way too many features for me personally. But wihtout using outboard
effects such as guitar stompboxes and preproduction filters. The
sounds aren't dirty enough for my taste. I haven't had much
experience with the Virus, but I would like to trade my Karma for a
Virus KC or even a desktop or XL rack.

Do think this is worth it or should I keep my karma?

Thanks all,
Greg
