Right now I'm looking at two pieces that aren't even out yet (Akai MPC1000, Korg SX-1), so none of this is final. Why am I getting rid of the sp808 that I use now? Well, it does work fine for what I need to do with it 90% of the time. I only really have two issues with it, it's a bit larger than I would ideally like (space is limited in DJ booths and clubs), and the audio cuts out when you enter menus sometimes, or change effects (even if they're not on). It really is more of studio sampler than a live one IMO, the audio occasionally cutting out when you enter a menu is an example. The Korg SX-1 is appealing to me because I liek the small footprint it has, and I think the Electribe series is really one of those things that just perfect. All of the boxes are dead easy to use an sound great, very cheap too. The downside is typically slightly limited functionality in some areas (effects in the past). The new effects in this one look nice though, and the slice part means my breaks loops won't be confined to only one tempo anymore too, another plus. Smartmedia back up is nice too. The Akai on the other hand is I'm sure a much more robust sampler. My first sampler was an Akai S3000XL, and it was a beast. Never crashed, and always got the job done. The MPC1000 also has three seperate effects (which are arguably better than the Korg's), plus a global compression too. The compression would definitely come in handy live, as would the EQ capabilities of the Akai. So right now, I'm really undecided. My needs for a sampler are really basic, typically I only need to play back a few samples on one channel, and I would like to tweak effects on them live too. Both of these units will do that, it's just a question of do I want a basic, but really fun to use sampler with some neat features (the SX-1 with motion sequencing), or do I want a more utilitarian sampler that with slightly more professional sound and features (the Akai). I'm still waiting on the price of the MPC1000 to be announced, that could be a big factor in helping me decide too. rEalm What kind of sampler are you looking for & what use do you plan give it? I'm just curious... since I borrowed some ideas from you current setup. :) To unsubscribe from this group, send an email to: xl7-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com Your use of Yahoo!
